East Sacramento kicks off the 4th of July every year in grand style with its 42nd Street Parade and neighborhood bar-be-que. Each year seems to attrack more-and-more crowds in search of some 'Yankee Doodle' fun as the old timers sit back and watch the kids get into the spirit of the celebration. The idea is that anything that is painted red,white and blue, has wheels and is sporting some kids or dogs get pushed down 43rd street and then back down 42nd street in a non stop pagent of imagination, color and whimsy. Then everyone retires to their front lawns where the burgers and Coney Island franks start jumping off the grils and the Kool-Aid, shaved ice and adult beverages get passed around. It seems as if just about everyone is a guest of a party thrower or a new friend invited to join in on the fun of the holiday celebration. So if you are in town over the 4th, why not show off your red, white and blue at our next 4th of July neighborhood block party.
